the two extremes
Went on a trip to Little India with my kids today and we experienced the best and worst of humanity. Let's start off with the incident which left me fuming mad first. We were making our way through this narrow passageway where both sides of it were lined with a few stalls. Initially, the tour guide just wanted to point out some stuff to the pupils and then move on. However, after some time, it was apparent that the kids were moving forward very slowly, and they didn't seem to be buying anything, so I told them to move on. Then this arrogant shopkeeper shouted at me saying that I shouldn't tell them to move along cos his boss would scold him. He also said that I was hurting his business or something like that. Then he continued to push the pupils to buy his stuff. He was literally hard-selling his stuff to the kids, as if he was desperate for sales. I mean, they're only children, how can you be so unscrupulous right? Argh. Then, the kids were brought to Komala's Villa where they could have some prata and drinks which came in a set that cost $2. Later on, we found out from the tour guide that a kind samaritan who was a diner at the restaurant paid for all the food and drinks that the children bought! It was such a kind gesture by the man whom we didn't get to see his face. But these are the things that make you feel that there is hope in this world after all. Heh.
