3rd day of school

Hehehe.....Felt really happy today!! Only because my children were so "guai" today....compared to the last two days. Moreover, I have more or less gotten used to the notion of teaching though I still have much more to learn. Today was really a big improvement over the last two days perhaps due to the 4 pupils who were absent today but nevertheless, a good achievement for me. There was even laughter in the air today...so it was good! The kids are really adorable lah. When they behave. Think I'm gonna lose weight soon...have been combining my lunch with my breakfast....haven't been eating a proper lunch.

Hmnz....on the other hand, don't know when I can meet up with friends....seem to have so much homework to mark and I don't know where to start. :( This is not good....need to have a life! See, I even have to go back to school tomorrow to try to mark the assignments.

1st day of school-update

Phew...I'm back in one piece. I swear, anybody who needs to practise his/her patience should be a teacher. The discipline of the class was horrendous!! Till the point where one boy was called up during dismissal time and was asked to stay back by the discipline head, and a group of boys were called out by the principal for apparently bullying their classmate. The latter's mother had complained to the principal. Wow...I was overwhelmed by the barrage of "Teacher, she push me!" or "Teacher, he pull my hair" or the classic "Teacher, can I go to the toilet?". And subsequently, the rest of the class will follow suit. Gosh....gonna have to lay down some ground rules tomorrow.

And that's ONLY discipline part. There's still lots to learn as to how I should deliver my lessons. Well....I don't think it can get any worse than the first day. :) There are compositions to mark.... lessons to prepare...art lessons to think about....*wrings my hands & pull my hair* Argh...

But the kids are really wonderful sometimes....like how they offer to clean the whiteboard. There was this other kid where I met on the staircase and I thought he was from my class 'cos he said "Hi teacher!",  but he wasn't from my class as I subsequently found out. Okay....gotta go do some stuff now. hope everything go according to plan tomorrow.

Jitters

My first day at White Sands..... Feelin nervous already...mostly brought on by the fact that the school called me up yesterday and informed me that there was a slight change of plans. And that slight change of plans was that I wasn't supposed to teach P4 as planned...now I'm supposed to be teaching a P3 class. Like what slight change was that??!!! Argh! It toatally threw me off course 'cos my mind was already prepared with the mindset that I was teaching P4s....and at least I knew a little background about the class. But now, I don't even know which teacher I am taking over.....and when will be my first proper lesson. Sigh.... Gonna go take a shower now....gotta be at school in 1hr's time.

Sense of helplessness

Depressed. Confused. Sad. Angry
Life is tough....no one ever said that life would be easy anyway. Its really tough growing up... Stop being so naive Zhenfang
What is the lesson that God wants to teach me in times like these? To have faith? To be patient? I really don't know. But prayer seems like the best thing I could use now.

PS: Thanks husky for your listening ear. :)

Phew...finally had time to blog... Went out for dinner yesterday with amanda, zy and yt. Its amazing how we still keep in contact since 1st 3 mths. Went to crystal jade's la mian xiao long bao....wow...it was quite good. The la mian was yummy...the xiao long bao too... For those who haven't tried....you should go try it.
Today was another busy day...went to visit my grandfather in the nursing home with my cousin...its been a long time since i last saw him. He was in good spirits as usual...but his memory's all gone haywire. But he looks so thin and frail....all his muscles have de-generated... Looking at him and thinking about the way he looked before his fall always makes my eyes go watery... Its scary to think how one seemingly harmless fall can change one's life totally. But thank God that he's still alive...
Anyway, after visiting him we went to town for lunch....at Gusto, wisma 2nd level...the pasta was really good..but the price was quite pretty too. ;) Haha...an indulgence once in a while is ok. Then went shopping...went for coffee then off to work. Work was alright today....was rather quiet actually...hope business will be better tomorrow though. It was so bad today that I was let off half an hour before I was supposed to knock off. Felt so paiseh... When there's good business, time will pass faster. Work tomorrow....church on sun. Yeah!

The silver lining

Hmnz...at last...my life seems to be getting back on track... And that's really good. :)  Met up with Fish today and had a great time with her! Talked about loads of stuff....my screwed up life....and how God has brought her family closer together....I feel so happy for her. Well...hopefully...if all goes well, will be going to her church this sunday...Harvester Assembly of God. We'll see how it goes...Better start praying hard.

Favouritism

I'm officially convinced that my mum practises favouritism; although she always emphasises otherwise. However, a recent conversation with a lady confirmed my assumptions that mothers tend to treat sons better than daughters.  Something happened just know and I'm just to riled up to blog about it. I'm practising self-restraint now..... I didn't even do or say anything wrong...and I was just making a suggestion which was not meant to be serious at all. And straight away my mum(who took it seriously) shot back at me with a "What do you mean by lending it to someone else? Let your brother read first lah.!" Like wtf. I'm sorry peeps....I had to say that. I didn't even mean ANYTHING by my seemingly harmless statement and she had to act oh-so-defensive and "jump to my brother's aid".

It really must be the menopause which she's going through. I'm serious man. I was sick and tired of retorting back to her, so i just stood up and walked away to my room partly because I was trying to be defiant and partly because I really wanted to take off my watch and put it in my room. Sigh.... No one will ever know how I feel. Does she know that I'm crying now? She doesen't even know how I feel because I will never tell her. And I will never tell her because every word that comes out of my mouth will be deemed as being "rude" or "defiant" or whatever she calls it but reasoning. So I choose to keep my mouth shut. Doesen't that seem to solve everything? No!

I'm sorry for the ranting....had to let it all out.

DPM Lee's visit to Taiwan creates an uproar

Read this article.

DPM in Taiwan: Beijing reacts

I think its really silly and childish of China in their uproar over DPM Lee's "private and unofficial visit to Taiwan to visit friends." Its crazy....and I seriously can't see any harm coming out of his visit to Taiwan to hurt Singapore-China's bilateral ties. I have nothing to say man....Politics...tsk tsk.

Spent almost the whole day out today.... Well, its great to meet up with old friends once again. Tania's back from Sydney, and Jac's back from London...but she's going to Sydney from the 15th till 23rd to meet up with her friends there. :( So sad....Lyd couldn't join us today...heard she's going back to Aus though.. Sigh...didn't even have the chance to catch up with her. Watched The Whole Ten Yards today....its a stupidly hilarious show....a good laugh I must say. Still wanna catch Mean Girls though....anybody?

Then met up with Ros to do a little shopping and to get something from her which Liying passed to her. It was so touching.... I'm beginning to hate the feeling where friends go overseas for studies.... I seem to have so many close friends who went overseas to study...its geting rather irritating.

Oh ya...just received the letter from MOE informing me the school that I will be posted to....and I've been posted to White Sands Pri. Its just 4 bus stops away from my house....so convenient. Its a rather new school too....so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the students will not climb all over me. Hmnz....must remember to give the school a call tomorrow.

Heh...recently made a new discovery....so exciting...really wonder how his girlfriend looks like.

Busy bee...

Haha....I'm so happy for my bro....He got 3rd in his division for inter-schs!! Woohoo....This is his biggest achievement in sailing yet....and I believe there are more to come... :) He's worked so hard at it and it really is a much deserved 3rd placing for him. Never seen him so happy before...
Well..he's gonna collect his trophy today but I'm not gonna be there... :( *sobz* Have to rush off to work....my first day of work...better not be late. Not very nice and doesn't leave a good impression...Owells...just have to wait and admire the photos then.
This weekend's gonna be a busy one too...Have to accompany my bro to VJ open house for the VIP(Victoria Integrated Programme) on sat morning, rest then go off to work. And on sun, will be at sembawang from 12-5pm to help out at a keelboat race in which Tracey is OD. Then I gotta rush off to work. Can already forsee that I'll be late.*sighz* Will see how it goes lah....This is so frustrating...Dunnoe how I got myself so busy....can't spend much time with family this weekend...I mean of course they understand but, still... Haven't seen my mum in like more than 24 hrs? Think I won't even get to see her this arvo, have to wait till after I get home from work. Darn....
Have a whole load of things to do.....must meet up with the foursome next week....can't drag it any longer, or else they'll just disappear again. Must change the hammies' bedding again....oh, did I mention that they gave birth again? Grrr...
I guess its good to be busy....better than having nothing to do....

Quick movie review...

Just back from watching Spiderman 2 with my brother and boy, it was a blast! There was a few unexpected twists and turns in the movie and the plot wasnot bad at all. The effects were nothing short of fantabulous as well. On the whole, a very enjoyable movie.

On a separate note, watching a movie on a school holiday/public holiday is a major tedious/patience-consuming task if you do not make a prior booking. Otherwise, you will be rather disappointed. Hence, having your parents book the tickets with a credit card is a major plus. Hmnz....still thinking about whether I should get a debit card. It'll make things so much easier...like making online bookings which is such a common thing now.

Time really flies. Before you know it, more than half a year has already passed and I must admit, God has generally been good and faithful to me. I thank Him for a wonderful and loving family. For that aspect, I can't ask for more. Really treasure the times alone with my family....its when you really get to understand more about them....and find out stuff about them you never knew. A perfect example is the fact that my bro is such a vainpot. He'd rather be half-blind than wearing a not too fashionable pair of glasses(his substitute pair). My goodness...I didn't know my bro could be that vain. :) Don't know if its good or bad though. Heh..

Oh....before I forget...starting from this week onwards, my friday, sat, and sun nights will be gone. Poof! :( But there'll be money to earn...not that I'm a slave for money...but it'll be good experience for me. So any of you out there who dig hongkong pastries like egg tarts, old-wife cakes, century-egg pastries etc, feel free to come down to Sago Street, Chinatown to take a look. The pastries are really good and are priced reasonably. :)

Awareness

Many a times, we get caught up in our own lives that we forget that there are so much more bigger problems than the ones we face everyday. <

Do you know that women in India are set on fire 'cos their family cannot afford to pay for their dowry? And the root of that problem is because they view women as a burden in their family so they want to marry them off. What kind of logic is that? And many of the women who are burnt die soon after because they can't recover from their injuries? After watching the programme, it really made me sit back and pause for a moment to reflect on how lucky we are to be living in a well-developed country. Another thing is that in Ethiopia, there is almost no healthcare for women in rural villages? So women who are in labour do not have any access to any doctors or midwifes or anything? So they are left in their own house, and they just push continuosly(for about 5-6 days), urged on by their relatives and in most cases, deliver a stillborn? And as a result of that, because of all the pushing, a fistula is formed whereby urine and bowel contents just flow out uncontrollably? And the only way to mend it is to have it sewn up. And this women are so young.....because they are married off at a young age, as early as 8 or 9. And they are usually pregnant even before their bodies are ready for it.

The reason why I brought this up is that sometimes, we are just so caught up in our own lives that we fail to stop and count our blessings. Some of us just live to grumble about each day, when actually, they are not aware that there are probably hundreds of thousands of people out there who are not as fortunate as we are, or face more severe problems than us.

Tired....

Heh, I'm finally back from my trip. I must say that I had lots of fun during the trip, in the midst of getting lost occasionally and finding places on the map...:) Hong Kong is a definite must-go destination for anybody who loves to shop. The stuff are so trendy and cheap there.... and not forgetting....tons of "shuai ges". Gosh....even the bell boy in the hotel where we stayed was so cute. Two of my cousin's friends who joined us were swooning over him. And I must say, I think there is a pre-requisite for male sales assistants in Giordano stores in Hong Kong, 'cos almost 90% of the male sales assistants were so cute. Lolz...but we had fun....4 people squeezing in a teeny weeny room which we thought were near-impossible....bargaining till our mouths were dry....and it didn't help that I was the only one who could speak cantonese(which was terribly mediocre). Their local food there were quite delicious too....especially the egg-tarts and the "bo-lo buns"....I don't know its english name. Went to Victoria's peak....the view from up there was spectacular.
Owells, walked until my legs almost crumbled under me. Hmnz....all in all, it was a good experience. Wouldn't mind going back there again...at least we know what to expect the next time we visit HK.
